Technology is becoming an integral part of human life and is transforming our habits. Innovative applications combining sensors, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence have given rise to the Smart City and Smart Territory concepts. These terms refer to hyper-technological urban spaces designed to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants and create safer and more sustainable environments.

The Sustainable Smart Cities and Territories International Conference will take place in 2023 between the 21st and the 23rd of June. Developers, researchers and companies will gather at the event in search of innovative techniques and methods capable of improving the world we live. The event will give center stage to advances in the application of disruptive technologies in urban planning.

The international conference will be held in Manizales, department of Caldas, Colombia. A stunning enclave located in the Andes Mountains. As this is one of the most biodiverse regions in the world, SSCt attendees will be able to enjoy an impressive mountainous landscape which integrates the urban environment.  

In addition, Colombia’s Coffee Triangle, to which Manizales belongs, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Apart from its natural wealth, the city has a rich cultural offer in music, literature, theatre, dance, and much more. 

In Manizales there are many Higher Education Institutions (HEI), which means that the university population is big. Among them is the University of Caldas, which has held a “High Quality Accreditation” for the last 8 years, granted by the National Accreditation Council. This university is one of the top choices among Colombian students and has a broad academic offer.

For this reason, the Sustainable Smart Cities and Territories International Conference 2023 will be held at this university, among its organizers, sponsors and promoters there are important local and international entities which have joined forces to create a memorable and enriching experience for the attendees.

Juan Manuel Corchado (15 de Mayo de 1971, Salamanca, España) Catedrático en la Universidad de Salamanca. J. M. Corchado ha sido presidente de la asociación IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics, y coordinador académico del Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Arte y Tecnología de la Animación de la Universidad de Salamanca e investigador en las Universidades de Paisley (UK), Vigo (Spain) y en el Plymouth Marine Laboratory (UK). En la actualidad compagina toda su actividad con la dirección de los programas de Máster en Seguridad, Animación Digital, Telefonía Movil, Dirección de Sistemas de Información, Internet de las Cosas, Social Media, Diseño e Impresión 3D, Blockchain, Z System, Industria 4.0, Gestión de Proyectos Ágiles y Smart Cities & Intelligent Buildings​, en la Universidad de Salamanca y su trabajo como editor jefe de las revistas ADCAIJ (Advances in Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence Journal), OJCST (Oriental Journal of Computer Science and Technology) o Electronics MDPI (Computer Science & Engineering section). J. M. Corchado desarrolla principalmente trabajos en proyectos relacionados con Inteligencia Artificial, Machine Learning, Blockchain, IoT, Fog Computing, Edge Computing, Smart Cities, Smart Grids y Análisis de sentimiento.
