Dr. Mariano Barbacid, AstraZeneca Foundation Honorary Scientific Career Achievement Award, presents the award to the CRIS Against Cancer Foundation

The Spanish biochemist Mariano Barbacid, who received the Honorary Award for Excellence in Scientific Trajectory granted by the AstraZeneca Foundation for his career as a researcher in the field of oncology, presented on July 25, the donation of this award, which represents an amount of 50,000 euros, to the CRIS Against Cancer Foundation, for the development of research projects for the treatment and cure of this disease. The excellent career of Dr. Mariano Barbacid was recognized with the Honorary Award in the VI Awards granted by the AstraZeneca Foundation.

This donation took place at an event held during the second meeting of the AstraZeneca Foundation Board of Trustees of which I have the pleasure of being a member, and was attended by Dr. Mariano Barbacid himself, Marta Cardona, Director of the CRIS Contra el Cáncer Foundation, Rick R. Suárez, President of the AstraZeneca Foundation and AstraZeneca Spain, and Marta Moreno, Vice President of the AstraZeneca Foundation and Director of Corporate Affairs and Market Access at AstraZeneca Spain. Dr. Barbacid said: “I firmly believe in supporting the fight against cancer through research and new advanced therapies. Therefore, I believe that the best way to advance towards the dreamed goal is to do it hand in hand with CRIS Contra el Cáncer and all the researchers that this Foundation supports and who give hope to so many families”. “The AstraZeneca Foundation is proud to know that the Honorary Award we are giving to Dr. Barbacid will enable the CRIS Contra el Cáncer Foundation to develop research projects,” said Rick R. Suárez, President of the AstraZeneca Foundation and AstraZeneca Spain.

For her part, Marta Moreno, Vice President of the AstraZeneca Foundation and Director of Corporate Affairs and Market Access at AstraZeneca Spain, said that “at the AstraZeneca Foundation we have been working tirelessly for more than two decades, connecting science with people and remaining true to our values, always committed to promoting research talent in our country”. Meanwhile, Marta Cardona, Director of the CRIS Against Cancer Foundation, recalled that “research is the only way to cure cancer, it is a disease that affects us all and the involvement of civil society is fundamental. The objective of the CRIS Against Cancer Foundation is to provide researchers with the necessary resources to work in the search for solutions to cure this disease”.
