BISITE Group, AIR Institute and the University of Caldas (Colombia) hold the SSCt 2023 International Conference on Smart Cities

Sustainable Smart Cities and Territories International Conference (SSCt 2023) is an international event organized by the University of Salamanca, the BISITE Research Group, AIR Institute, the IoT Digital Innovation HUB and the University of Caldas (Colombia). From 21 to 23 June a large number of researchers, developers and companies from the technology sector met in Manizales, Colombia.

SSCt 2023 fostered a debate on scientific and technical advances in the field of smart cities and territories, through different presentations and academic contributions that have been delivered both online and on-site.

Smart Cities, Blockchain and Big Data at SSCt 2023

Following the success of the first edition held in Doha (Qatar), this year’s conference once again featured top notch speakers who extensive knowledge and expertise, and delivered open-access lectures. Among them were Dr. Rafael Pastor Vargas, director of the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering at the National University of Distance Education (Spain) who gave the first seminar on Wednesday 21, on “Blockchain and Smart Cities: a perfect match”, introducing the attendees to the different applications of blockchain technology in smart cities, such as the efficient management of mobility.

On the second day of SSCt 2023, different workshops and activities were presented, in addition to the keynote address by Dr. Yves Demazeau, Director of Research at the National Center for Scientific Research in Paris and one of the world’s leading experts in Artificial Intelligence; he presented a lecture on “Ethical MAS of portals and drones for Smart Cities and Territories”, where he discussed his current work on multi-agent systems and, in particular, on the ethical design of such systems, also presenting two applications that illustrated his approach. 

Dr. Carlos Fernando da Silva Ramos, senior coordinating professor at the Higher Institute of Engineering of Porto in Portugal, gave a presentation on “Artificial Intelligence in the Context of Smart Cities and Territories”. During his presentation he explained the use of Artificial Intelligence methods and techniques for the management of the problems of Cities and Territories and described the impact of the accelerated evolution of AI on people’s opportunities to live in those spaces.
