SSCt is a symposium that brings together numerous researchers, developers and companies in the technology sector for discussions on scientific and technical advances in the field of smart cities and territories. After the first congress in Doha, the 2023 edition, organized by the BISITE Research Group, AIR Institute, the IoT Digital Innovation Hub and the University of Caldas, will be held from June 21 to 23 in Manizales, Colombia, and can also be followed online.

Some of the topics of interest that will be discussed at the event are:

  • Success stories and the challenges of smart cities and territories.
  • Smart homes and smart buildings.
  • Smart infrastructures (networks, 5G, water and waste…).
  • Urban mobility and intelligent transport systems.
  • Smart travel and tourism.
  • Smart health and emergency management (epidemic control).
  • Human-machine interactions.
  • Data security and blockchain.
  • Energy and climate policy.

With the success and the experience gained in the first edition, on this occasion highly knowledgeable, renowned speakers have joined the program, and they will give talks, workshops and free-access lectures. Among them are Dr. Yves Demazeau, Research Director at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris and one of the world’s leading experts in artificial intelligence; Dr. Carlos Fernando da Silva Ramos, Coordinating Professor at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Porto, and Dr. Joel J. P. C. Rodrigues, a leading researcher from the Instituto de Telecomunicaçoes de Portugal.

During the three-day conference there will also be time for academic contributions in the form of call for papers, call for workshops and doctoral consortium. The call is free and anyone who meets the requirements (which can be viewed here) can participate. In addition, the call for papers, workshop and the doctoral consortium for predoctoral researchers proposals has been extended until Friday, March 24.

Several papers will be selected, so that the selected authors will have the opportunity to present an extended version in a special issue of different scientific journals such as MDPI Electronics, MDPI Sensors or ADCAIJ: Advances in Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence Journal.
