La Gaceta de Salamanca has organized the third edition of the congress for the elaboration of the White Paper for the Development of Salamanca, which will take place next Thursday, November 3 at the Palacio de Congresos.


The event will be attended by businessmen, experts and representatives of various institutions, and will be organized around six round tables to discuss the difficulties and opportunities for development. In addition, the Mayor, the President of the Provincial Council and the President of the Junta de Castilla y León will take part in the event.


Representing the BISITE Research Group as one of the promoters of the event, its director and president of the AIR Institute, Juan Manuel Corchado Rodríguez, will be part of the panel of experts of one of the tables. In this case, it is the one entitled “Public funds, investments and opportunities to bet on research and cutting-edge technology”, which will take place from 11.45 am to 1.30 pm in Room 1 of the Salamanca Conference Center.


At this table, Juan Manuel Corchado will share experiences and opinions with other experts such as Blanca Ares González, general director of Universities and Research of the Junta de Castilla y León; Sonia Martín Pérez, general director of Health Planning of the Junta; Inmaculada Vicente Martín, responsible for Economic Promotion of the City Council of Salamanca; José Miguel Mateos Roco, vice-rector of Research and Transfer at the University of Salamanca; Javier Vázquez de Prada, head of Waste Treatment at FCC Medio Ambiente; María Dolores Rodríguez Frías, director of the Pulsed Lasers Center; Víctor Monsalvo García, head of the Eco-efficiency Area at Aqualia, and Francisco J. López Hernández, researcher and coordinator of Innovation at IBSAL. It will be moderated by Marian Vicente Sierra, coordinator of La Gaceta.


The conclusions of the different round tables will be published in a publication that La Gaceta de Salamanca will share with the administrations involved, as well as with the representatives of the economic sectors affected by the projects for the recovery of the economy. The session in which Juan Manuel Corchado will participate will be a good opportunity to share knowledge and facilitate companies’ access to aid from the Junta de Castilla y León, the Government and European funds.

Juan Manuel Corchado (15 May 1971, Salamanca, Spain) is Professor at the University of Salamanca. He has been Vice-Rector for Research from 2013 to 2017 and Director of the Science Park of the University of Salamanca. Elected as Dean of the Faculty of Science twice, he holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Salamanca and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of the West of Scotland. He leads the renowned BISITE (Bioinformatics, Intelligent Systems and Educational Technology) Research Group, created in 2000. Director of the IoT Digital Innovation Hub and President of the AIR Institute, J. M. Corchado is also Visiting Professor at the Osaka Institute of Technology since January 2015, Visiting Professor at the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and Member of the Advisory Group on Online Terrorist Propaganda of the European Counter Terrorism Centre (EUROPOL). J. M. Corchado has been president of the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society, and academic coordinator of the University Institute for Research in Art and Animation Technology at the University of Salamanca, as well as researcher at the Universities of Paisley (UK), Vigo (Spain) and the Plymouth Marine Laboratory (UK). He currently combines all his activity with the direction of Master programmes in Security, Digital Animation, Mobile Telephony, Information Systems Management, Internet of Things, Social Media, 3D Design and Printing, Blockchain, Z System, Industry 4.0, Agile Project Management, and Smart Cities & Intelligent Buildings, at the University of Salamanca and his work as editor-in-chief of the journals ADCAIJ (Advances in Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence Journal), OJCST (Oriental Journal of Computer Science and Technology) or Electronics MDPI (Computer Science & Engineering section). J. M. Corchado mainly works on projects related to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain, IoT, Fog Computing, Edge Computing, Smart Cities, Smart Grids and Sentiment Analysis. He has recently been included in the board of trustees of the AstraZeneca Foundation, along with other health professionals and researchers recognised for bringing scientific knowledge closer to society.
