The IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM 2021), will take place at IFEMA in Madrid, from 7 to 11 December, 2021, under the theme “Connecting Cultures around the Globe”. It is organized by the BISITE Research Group of the University of Salamanca together with the Carlos III University of Madrid and other national and international institutions. This year’s event will be held in Spain for the very first time and will bring together more than 3,000 researchers, world-renowned scientists and industry professionals from different fields with the aim of driving innovation in most aspects of communications.

This year will feature a new Spotlight talks format. These talks will address technology that has emerged from R&D and its use in commercial environments, and they will be of special interest to engineers who are interested in applying these technologies in their own products or who wish to learn how to apply these technologies in their own field. The talks will be interactive so that the audience may engage with the speakers, ask questions and make comments.

Spotlight Talks

The first talk is “Security Considerations for Evolving Open RAN Architectures,” which will be given by Scott Poretsky, Director of Security, Network Product Solutions, Ericsson North America and Jason S. Boswell, CISSP, Chief Security Officer, MANA Network Product Solutions. They will address the significant societal value of 5G, which is already being used in critical infrastructure, mission-critical applications, smart manufacturing, connected car and other use cases.

 In addition to Open RAN approaches which are virtualized, disaggregated, cloud native, automated and intelligent. Its security risks will also be discussed. The topics to be covered will be 3GPP 5G security, cloud security, security through design and secure use of open-source software. As well as concepts for achieving a zero-trust architecture for Open RAN that can be implemented in Cloud RAN and O-RAN.
