This week a forum took place in Salamanca under the title “Dialogue on the Future of Education”. An event organized by the University of Salamanca, the Salamanca City Council, Fundación Telefónica and international institutions, including the European Commission and the European Parliament. During the conference, the importance of the modernization of European education systems, digitalization, excellence and measures for the next academic year were discussed.

The event included several round tables and workshops, with the aim of enriching the public debate and offering citizens the possibility of participating directly in the conversation about the country that can be achieved in the post-COVID world, incorporating the different ideas into the Spain 2050 project.

We were also able to learn from the Vice President of the European Commission for Promoting our European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, that the European Commission has proposed three initiatives for the coming year, with the aim of promoting digitalization in primary, secondary and higher education, as well as encouraging excellence by promoting the leadership of European universities. He also reported that it is intended to double the funding of the Erasmus+ program and increase the fund of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, where Spain is “a major recipient of both aids”.

This is excellent news for the student community and for the development of education in Spain.
