With its Master in Blockchain and Smart Contracts coordinated by the BISITE Research Group, the University of Salamanca has been highlighted by Invezz as one of the best universities in Europe to study blockchain.

Ranked as the twelfth best master’s degree on the continent, Salamanca impressed both for the nature of the teaching offered to students and employment opportunities through the university’s collaboration with companies such as IBM.

Blockchain technology can reshape the world as we know it, as has already been seen through the enduring popularity of cryptocurrencies and the recent transformation of digital property through NFTs. The growing use of smart contracts to improve the way business is conducted in the digital space. As such, BISITE master’s students are at the forefront, driving new developments.

The master’s degree provides an in-depth understanding of all of the above developments while fostering a creative spirit so that students can help drive further change once they enter the world of work.

For those interested, the master’s degree is led by Dr Juan Manuel Corchado, who is also director of the BISITE research group. 

Invezz is an online financial website that aims to help ordinary people take control of their financial future. Within this remit, the platform focuses on cryptocurrencies and emerging opportunities related to blockchain technology. Its list of universities was ranked according to four key categories:

  • Prestige of the school or university.
  • Quality of blockchain research.

Considering the other universities on the list – including University College London’s Centre for Blockchain Technologies, University of Bologna Business School and IT University Copenhagen – the University of Salamanca’s Faculty of Science is delighted to be ranked so highly.

Juan Manuel Corchado (15 de Mayo de 1971, Salamanca, España) Catedrático en la Universidad de Salamanca. Ha sido Vicerrector de Investigación desde el 2013 hasta el 2017 y Director del Parque Científico de la Universidad de Salamanca. Corchado también es Profesor Visitante en el Instituto Tecnológico de Osaka desde enero de 2015, Profesor visitante en la Universiti Malaysia Kelantan y Miembro del Advisory Group on Online Terrorist Propaganda of the European Counter Terrorism Centre (EUROPOL). J. M. Corchado ha sido presidente de la asociación IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics, y coordinador académico del Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Arte y Tecnología de la Animación de la Unviersidad de Salamanca e investigador en las Universidades de Paisley (UK), Vigo (Spain) y en el Plymouth Marine Laboratory (UK). En la actualidad compagina toda su actividad con la dirección de los programas de Máster en Seguridad, Animación Digital, Telefonía Movil, Dirección de Sistemas de Información, Internet de las Cosas, Social Media, Diseño e Impresión 3D, Blockchain, Z System, Industria 4.0, Gestión de Proyectos Ágiles y Smart Cities & Intelligent Buildings​, en la Universidad de Salamanca y su trabajo como editor jefe de las revistas ADCAIJ (Advances in Distributed Computing and Artificial Intelligence Journal), OJCST (Oriental Journal of Computer Science and Technology) o Electronics MDPI (Computer Science & Engineering section). J. M. Corchado desarrolla principalmente trabajos en proyectos relacionados con Inteligencia Artificial, Machine Learning, Blockchain, IoT, Fog Computing, Edge Computing, Smart Cities, Smart Grids y Análisis de sentimiento.
