Smart Cities: a great opportunity for professional development

At BISITE we work on the development of Smart city concepts and their applications in Barcelona, Istanbul, Doha and other cities. As we have become experts in this field, we can not only work on extraordinarily interesting projects but also enjoy them with our students. The transformation of cities has come to stay.

Smart cities are a great opportunity for development and they don’t stop growing, for this reason we have launched a Master’s Degree in Smart Cities, which will enable our students to become city managers.

The students of our Smart Cities Programme will learn from top professionals and will do internships by working on our projects in Barcelona, Istanbul and Doha.

Wouldn’t it be great to do your internship in Msheireb Downtown Doha? It’s now all within your reach. You will have the opportunity to work on the development of a new city, built practically from scratch. This city has already got more than 100 intelligent systems, over 650,000 connected devices, over 10,000 cameras, more than 10,000 monitored car parks, more than 8,000 smart meters, more than 7,500 access control readers and more than 3,700 1M + active signage beacons.

Master’s Degree in Smart Cities de la Universidad de Salamanca Master en Smart Cities

Smart cities have become trendy, in fact, it’s the goal of almost every city to become “smart”. However, the process of becoming one is complicated and can lead to ruin. The smart city paradigm places people at the centre of development, it uses ICTs for decisive and intelligent urban management, stimulating the formation of an efficient government. These tools will make it possible to promote collaborative planning processes and citizen participation, and to use the potential of artificial intelligence to the fullest, employing it to promote integrated and sustainable development.

This definition clearly associates successful smart city development with the good choice of technology and of intelligent information management systems, as well as a team capable of managing the software, hardware and the knowledge involved in collaboration with the governors of a city. There is a lot of high quality and robust hardware to choose from. It is also important to consider the appropriateness of security protocols and the potential of the hardware to evolve.

In the case of software, there are many tools, but few are effective, efficient and reasonably priced. A good choice would allow a well-prepared team to efficiently manage all the data captured by sensors and the information stored in the council’s databases, using it to generate models and dashboards that would facilitate automated or supervised decision making.

Finding qualified professionals is difficult, but there is an increasing number of specialists who have been specially prepared to work in the area of smart city development. At the University of Salamanca, we prepare professionals to manage smart city projects and work with technological leaders who develop and implement the software in the most advanced smart cities in Spain.
