5G as a boost to Industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 is one of the pillars of the Digital Spain 2025 Plan, which prioritizes the incorporation of technologies in the value chain. The aim is to achieve more efficient and flexible production, shorter manufacturing times and better stock control; these features will be of great value to the Spanish industry, making it more competitive. Moreover, it will be profitable for the country.

The term connected industry refers to the implementation of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, robotics or data analysis in manufacturing processes and even in logistics, for improved user experience. Such solutions are currently being implemented and have been for a few years already. However, with the arrival of 5G a much more rapid expansion is expected.

It is estimated that there will be “190 million 5G subscriptions worldwide by the end of 2020 and 2.8 billion by the end of 2025”. These figures point to a large market and opportunities for different sectors worldwide.

Considering these figures, a commitment to industrial digitalisation is essential for stable economic growth. In addition to the modernisation of the production chain, it is necessary to focus on the specialisation of the professionals in charge of managing and carrying out plans for digital transformation in the industry. For this reason, the Bisite Group at the University of Salamanca offers Master and Specialist Courses in Technologies Applied to Industry 4.0, in which besides gaining knowledge students will be able to acquire first-hand experience, by working in leading companies that collaborate with our Digital Innovation Hub.
