The industry has undergone significant changes since the first industrial revolution that began in the second half of the 18th century, up until today. The transformation has been remarkable and new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Robotic Automation, Machine Learning, Big Data and others make it possible to enter a new period; the fourth industrial revolution.

Connected industry makes it possible to optimize different processes, such as manufacturing, processing, and supply chain; this has a positive impact on the final customer. Furthermore, customer data are used to improve production.

In view of those advances, the European Union has proposed several strategies so that the countries that member countries can develop ideas for the expansion and implementation of disruptive technologies that contribute to European economy and business development.

In Salamanca, we promote projects such as the Digital Innovation Hub, which supports small and medium-sized enterprises in Castilla y León in their digitalization and internationalization processes. Likewise, we have designed specialized training programs, among them, the Master’s Degree in Technologies Applied to Industry 4.0, a degree that is organized by the BISITE Research Group at the University of Salamanca. BISITE will train professionals who will be qualified to lead the new industrial revolution.
