IoT and Artificial Intelligence in the maritime sector

The first master’s degree dedicated to training marine technologists in ICT and AI “Smart Maritime Industry & Surveying”.

More than a month ago I anticipated information about the kick off meeting for a project led by us: Smartsea The Surveying & MARiTime internet of thingS EducAtion Erasmus+, Knowledge Alliances.

The project continues to progress well. Its aim is to counteract the shortage of technical and maritime maintenance specialists, caused by the rapid expansion of the Smart Maritime & Surveying industry. Together with the members of the consortium, we have designed an official Master’s Degree in which 6 internationally prestigious universities participate, as well as large companies and SMEs.

The degree consists of 60 ECTS, lasts 8 months and consists of theoretical classes, two exchange periods and professional practices. Our students are experts in varied areas and they do this degree to learn about specialized IoT and AI tools that contribute to increasing the efficiency, development and sustainability of the maritime sector.

The use of these technologies in the maritime sector results in optimal data management and more effective decision making, this in turn, increases safety on board, reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
