I became acquainted with the world of research years ago, when I got my first job as programmer at the Plymouth Marine Laboratory (UK). We have been in Lisbon over the last few days where we held a kickoff meeting to launch a new European project, called SMARTSEA, I’m it’s PI and the project will be led by the University of Salamanca.
To be able to return to my origins as a researcher, and lead the biggest European project dedicated to bringing IoT and AI into marine science is, to me, a dream come true.
We are going to work with experts in this field, and not only will we develop the technology but we’ll also train the professionals who will integrate it in world’s largest merchant and passenger ships. We are also going to train the captains of these ships. Thanks to our technology, we will optimize the development of ships, increase their efficiency and reduce emissions.
