Medical technology, important for the health sector

The need for fast diagnostics and treatment has made it necessary to implement ICT in the field of medicine. For healthcare, technological developments have much to offer; substantially improved medical tools which are more cost-effective and allow to provide better treatment to patients.

There is no doubt that these developments greatly improve the quality of life. Many technologies are relevant to the field of medicine, the most important ones include big data, cloud computing and mobile technology, which are used to monitor the vital signs of patients from their own home and which send information to different centres, this is commonly called eHealth.

The BISITE Research Group has numerous projects in this line of research, including Aescolapius (a wheelchair that can be controlled with the voice, through a Smartphone or even with a helmet that reads the signals from the brain), ALTAIR (calculates the risk of suffering cardiovascular diseases through the observation of retinal vessels), CHUPACHUPS KIT: “we can be heroes” (prevents secondary effects of chemotherapy in people suffering from cancer), EKG MOBILE (monitoring of electrocardiograms in mobile devices), HOME CARE (controls house automation with the television),  and many other projects which you can find here.

All those projects demonstrate the strong link between new technologies and the progress of modern medicine. It is already impossible to understand one without the other and this precisely makes the development of research in this field fundamental.
