The relations between life-style and the onset of diabetes and hypertension were showcased at the latest  “science café .”

Around fifteen people gathered at the last science café, actually a considerable number when competing with televised sports events! Carlos Martínez-Salgado explained in a very clear and pedagogical way the relationships between life-style and the onset of diabetes and hypertension, describing the mechanisms involved in this process. He set out the best guidelines to avoid these problems and also warned about misleading advertisements. Francisco López Hernández, for his part, continued the talk by describing the type of research they carry out to obtain an early diagnosis of these problems and thus to avoid arriving at situations of great personal and social cost, as in the cases in which the damage requires hemodialysis.

The questions from the audience were addressed to both to these habits and to the active role that those affected can take in prevention.
