The University of Salamanca, has been given observer status in the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).
The representative of the University in this project is a professor from the Department of Applied Economy, Fernando Rodriguez, whom I wish to congratulate personally. This appointment implies Universities help in this project to take measures and reach international agreements on the conservation of biodiversity. The IPBES is an intergovernmental administrative body, recognized by the United Nations and which will probably become an important global instrument for the study of interaction between human activity, biodiversity and ecosystem services.
