Amin Shokri Gazafroudi, from Iran to the University of Salamanca

He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in computer engineering in the Department of Computer Science and Automation, the University of Salamanca(USAL), Salamanca, Spain. Besides, he is one of the researchers of the DREAM-GO project in BISITE research group, Salamanca, Spain.

DREAM-GO is an international project that its aim is to increase the efficient of the power system based on the smart grid (SG) infrastructure.  Hence, novel intelligent energy management methods and adequate electricity market models will be presented in this project to enable demand response (DR) for real-time operation of the SG.

According to his academic background, he received the B.Sc. degree in 2011 from Khajeh Nasir Toosi University of Technology (KNTU), Tehran, Iran, and the M.Sc. degree in 2013 from Imam Khomeini International University (IKIU), Qazvin, Iran. He earned both degrees in the field of power electrical engineering.

His research interests include smart grids, electricity market operating and planning and residential energy management systems. Particularly, addressing the decision making problems under uncertainties, while considering the integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems into the smart grids and distribution networks.

In his MSc Thesis, he assessed operating reserves as one type of ancillary services in simultaneous clearing of energy and reserve markets. Besides, the uncertainties of wind power generation, electrical load, and power system agents are considered in his study. He developed a new method to allocate the reserve costs between market agents based on their stochastic behavior. Finally, the results of his thesis were published in two JCR papers. While carrying out his research, he learned to develop and solve optimization problems in GAMS software. He also used the MATLAB software to apply intelligent methods for electricity market price and wind power generation forecasting. As a result of his research, one JCR paper and two conference papers were published on the topic of forecasting different electricity market variables.

Recently, he has been developing a new interval optimization method in the problem of residential energy management. In his proposed model, renewable energy sources (RESs) include solar panels and micro wind turbines. Moreover, energy storage systems (ESSs) consisting of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and batteries. Also, residential heating loads consisting of space heaters and water heaters. As well as pool pumps and other must-run services. The main duty of these RESs is to supply the desired residential electrical demands, and sell their power generation to the electricity market based on the aims of the smart home owner. Also, an innovative interval optimization method is introduced in this model. It can consider the uncertainty of RESs´ power generation to solve the problem of residential energy management and decrease the computational burden.
