Exactly 10 years ago the first brick of the Villamayor Campus was laid in the place where today the University´s Science Park stands. It´s infrastructures consist of 22,176 square meters and another 97,000 square meters of free space for its expansion.
I cannot express my gratitude enough to the rector, Daniel Hernández Ruipérez, for his faith in this large scale project thanks to which we have been able to carry out our Research and Transfer Plan that considered an impetus strategy for the Park and another strategy for entrepreneurship. It will be completed in 2017. In addition, we have launched a series of independent programs for the promotion of research.
When I was appointed General Manager of the Park, I developed a Research and Transfer Plan that included an impetus strategy for the Park and entrepreneurship, to be carried out within a period of two years, 2015-2017. It involved the upgrading of independent research financing programs.
The figures generated by the Science Park make us very proud. More than 800 jobs with more than 400 jobs created with our own investments and a total of 25 million euros per year in wages, this is not a small thing!
And we continue to bet for entrepreneurship, as demonstrated by the 500 entrepreneurs who are part of our entrepreneurship club. This places the University of Salamanca among the top ten in Spain that most support entrepreneurship.
Many people who have worked hard during the last ten years so that we could be where we are today. I am very thankful for their efforts and would like to express my gratitude to all those who have promoted our facilities and who, at times, had to make delicate and difficult decisions. We can now say that the Park is creditworthy in comparison to the rest of Science Parks in Spain.
