Salamanca City Council committed to research

The City Council of Salamanca will allocate almost 3 million euros to attract and promote the quality of research at the University.

The City Council of Salamanca and the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness through the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) signed an agreement last April with the aim of attracting and retaining young talent in the field of research.

The project consists of three parts: attract talented young researchers with the sole criteria of scientific excellence; retain the talent, which will encourage local researchers to promote projects which improve the lives of local citizens; and promote talent, which would allow a group of young students from different schools in Salamanca to learn firsthand about research work carried out in European centres.

To this end, ten students from secondary schools were selected last summer to learn firsthand about the research work taking place in different countries such as Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, the UK and Germany, and enjoy an unforgettable experience.
